1. Who We Are
RemitDiary (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is a personal finance tracking application built specifically for migrant workers. This Privacy Policy describes what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and what rights you have over it.
This policy applies to the RemitDiary mobile application and any related services, including this website. If you have questions about how your data is handled, you can reach us at hello@remitdiary.com.
2. Information We Collect
We collect only the information you directly provide to us. We do not use advertising networks, behavioural tracking tools, or third-party analytics of any kind.
Account Information
When you register, we collect your display name and email address. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and profile photo URL from Google. You can optionally set your nationality and preferred home currency, and upload a profile photo.
Financial Tracking Data
The financial records you create in the app — remittance transfers, savings goals, debts, and document records — are stored on your account. This data is entirely user-generated; we never collect financial information from external sources on your behalf.
Device Preferences
Your app preferences such as display theme, language choice, notification settings, and biometric lock configuration are stored locally on your device only. This information never leaves your phone.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information you provide solely to operate RemitDiary for you. This includes powering the transfer history, goals tracker, debt manager, document expiry reminders, dashboard summaries, and Sacrifice Report features. When you enable notifications, your device uses your document dates and goal progress to generate reminders locally — no data is sent to a push notification server.
When you use the currency converter, your device contacts a third-party exchange rate provider to retrieve current rates. Only currency codes are sent in these requests — no personal information from your account is shared with rate providers.
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the features you use. Your financial story belongs to you.
4. Legal Bases for Processing
If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction governed by similar data protection laws, the following legal bases apply to our processing of your personal data under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
Performance of a Contract (Article 6(1)(b))
Processing your account information and financial tracking data is necessary to provide the services you have registered for. Without this data, the core features of RemitDiary cannot function.
Legitimate Interests (Article 6(1)(f))
We have a legitimate interest in maintaining the security and integrity of our services and in preventing fraud or misuse. We process minimal data for this purpose and it does not override your fundamental rights.
We do not engage in any automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects on you.
5. Data Processors and Third-Party Services
To deliver RemitDiary, we work with the following third-party service providers. Each acts on our instructions and is bound by data processing agreements. We do not sell your data to any party.
Google Firebase
Your account credentials and financial data are stored in Google Firebase, a cloud platform operated by Google LLC. Firebase uses encryption in transit and at rest, and access controls ensure only you can read or write your own records. Google's privacy practices are described at policies.google.com/privacy.
Google Sign-In
If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo URL from Google. We use this only to identify your account and personalise the app. We do not access your Google contacts, calendar, Drive, or any other Google service. You can revoke our access at any time from your Google Account security settings.
Profile Photos
If you upload a profile photo, it is hosted by Cloudinary Ltd., a media management service. Photos are transferred securely and managed under a unique identifier. Please be aware that while deleting your RemitDiary account removes all your financial data immediately, automated removal of photos from Cloudinary's servers requires an additional process that will be fully in place before our public launch. Until then, your profile photo may persist on Cloudinary after account deletion. Cloudinary's privacy policy is at cloudinary.com/privacy.
6. International Data Transfers
Your data is stored on Google Firebase infrastructure, which operates globally and may process your data in the United States or other countries outside your own. Google conducts these transfers in accordance with the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and its commitments under applicable data transfer frameworks. Details of Google's transfer safeguards are available at policies.google.com/privacy.
By using RemitDiary, you acknowledge that your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside your own. We ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place for all such transfers.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your personal data for as long as your RemitDiary account is active. You have full control over your data at all times.
You can delete individual transfers, goals, debts, documents, and repayments at any time directly within the app. To delete your entire account and all associated data, go to Settings → Security & Privacy → Delete Account. Your data is removed immediately and permanently. You may also submit a deletion request through this website at remitdiary.com/delete-account, which we will process within 30 days.
Signing out of the app does not delete your data. Your records remain intact until you explicitly choose to delete them.
8. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you have legal rights over your personal data. Under the GDPR and similar laws, these include the right to access data we hold about you, to correct inaccurate information, to request erasure of your data, to restrict or object to certain processing, and to receive your data in a portable format.
In practice, RemitDiary is designed so that you can exercise most of these rights directly through the app. You can view and update your profile at any time. You can export your transfer history as a CSV file from the Transfers screen. You can delete any record, or your entire account, from within Settings.
To make a formal data request or if you need assistance exercising any right, contact us at hello@remitdiary.com. We will respond within 30 days.
If you are in the EEA or UK and believe we have not handled your data lawfully, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority. In the UK this is the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). In the EEA, contact your national supervisory authority.
9. Children's Privacy
RemitDiary is intended for working adults. The app is not directed at, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from, anyone under the age of 13. If you believe a child under 13 has registered an account, please contact us at hello@remitdiary.com and we will delete the account and all associated data promptly.
10. Security
We take the security of your financial information seriously. All data is transmitted using TLS encryption. Your account data is isolated so that only you can access your own records. The app supports biometric authentication and an automatic screen-lock timeout to protect access on your device. We do not include any advertising SDKs or third-party analytics tools in the app, which reduces your exposure to external data collection.
No system is completely immune to attack. In the unlikely event of a security incident that affects your personal data, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as RemitDiary evolves. When we make changes, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page. If changes are material, we will notify you through the app. Your continued use of RemitDiary after an update is published constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
12. Contact and Complaints
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, want to exercise your data rights, or have a concern about how we handle your information, please get in touch:
Email: hello@remitdiary.com
We aim to respond to all privacy-related enquiries within 7 business days. If you are unhappy with our response, you have the right to escalate to your local data protection supervisory authority.
